Match the pipe to its role
The rising main supports a different duty from a short delivery line to a tank. Identify the pipe position, installed length, connection arrangement and expected pressure conditions. Do not buy pipe by diameter alone. Ask the designer to confirm material, rating, joints and compatibility with the pump and headworks.
Include friction in the pump design
The internal diameter and route affect hydraulic losses at the intended flow. A lower pipe purchase cost can change the pump duty and operating energy. Ask for the selection assumptions and compare alternatives where the line is long. Changes in pipe diameter after pump selection should trigger a hydraulic review.
Account for handling and service access
The installation method must suit the pipe system and the weight of the assembly. Retrieval access, restraints and connections should be planned before lowering. Record the route to the tank and protect it appropriately for the site. Responsibility for trenching, reinstatement and civil works should be explicit in the quotation.
Check the completed delivery system
Commissioning should establish that delivery meets the agreed design basis and that accessible connections are sound. Keep the pipe specification and installation records. If output drops later, pipe leaks and restrictions belong in the diagnostic scope alongside the pump and source. Replacing a pump alone may not restore a damaged delivery path.
