Borehole pump running but no water: what to check

Borehole pump no water

Borehole pump, no water reaching the tank? Stop repeated operation and record the symptoms before arranging diagnosis. The source level, valves, pipework, controls and hydraulic assembly all need consideration. Record the symptoms safely and arrange diagnosis before repeatedly restarting or buying replacement parts.

Borehole pump, no water: identify what is actually running

A sound at the controller or pipe does not establish that the pump is delivering water. Note the display status, visible flow and tank behaviour without opening live equipment. If the system is repeatedly attempting to run without delivery, stop the cycle using the normal controls and arrange a technician assessment.

Check the delivery path

An appropriately qualified technician can assess valves, leaks, non-return arrangements and the rising main. Record whether water appears briefly and then stops, or whether there is no delivery at all. Changes after pipe work can be particularly useful clues. Avoid disconnecting a pressurised pipe to investigate.

Borehole pump, no water: check the delivery path

The source may not support the current pumping demand. Water-level observations and past test records help separate a source limitation from an equipment failure. Do not assume that drilling depth guarantees water above the pump inlet. A pump setting or operating schedule may need review based on measured conditions.

Confirm the remedy under operating conditions

Ask the technician to show sustained delivery after the repair, with relevant flow and control checks. Keep the cause and action in writing. Replacing a motor without identifying a leaking pipe or source problem can leave the same symptom unresolved. The handover should explain how to recognise the fault if it returns.

Borehole pump, no water: information for the technician

Note whether water appears briefly then stops, whether delivery has gradually reduced, and whether the controller shows a code. Check only normal accessible indications; do not open live panels or disconnect pressurised pipes. Tell us about recent pipework, power interruptions or changes in tank controls. These details help prepare the visit. A technician can then check the relevant system parts and explain whether lifting is needed. Product links below identify possible repair categories, not a diagnosis that every listed part has failed.

What to send for a quotation

  • Duration and pattern of lost delivery
  • Visible controller code
  • Valve or pipe changes
  • Previous flow and water-level records

Include your county, nearest town and location pin. Send the borehole report or clear equipment-label photos where available. If you do not have a report or measurement, let us know so the assessment can be included.

Tell us whether you need equipment supply only, installation, a solar conversion or a repair. We will help identify the next step and prepare an itemised quotation for the agreed work.
