Borehole pump cable sizing
Borehole pump cable sizing depends on the motor current, supply, installed route and acceptable voltage drop. In particular, the motor, supply and voltage-drop calculation affect the selection. Include waterproof joints and testing before lowering the assembly; correcting a cable problem later can mean paying to lift the pump again.
Borehole pump cable sizing: confirm the complete route
A cable quotation needs the motor rating, supply arrangement, installation length and relevant operating conditions. Therefore, ask the electrical designer to select the conductor size against the design requirements, rather than relying only on a seller description. Ask the electrical designer to establish suitability for the motor and route. Also, ask the installer to assess any cable already on site before reusing it.
Distinguish submerged cable from other cable
The portion used in water must suit its intended environment and application. For example, solar DC cable and motor drop cable perform different jobs. However, product names that sound similar do not establish interchangeability. Ask for the cable specification and the jointing system proposed for the submerged installation.
Borehole pump cable sizing and site installation conditions
In addition, the scope should identify cable termination, waterproof joints and how the installer will support the cable along the rising main. Never use the cable as the lifting support for the pump. Route and handling matter during lowering and retrieval. Finally, keep installation records so a future technician can locate joints and transitions.
Test and document before operation
The qualified installer should carry out the relevant checks and compare results with equipment requirements. After testing, keep cable type, size, length and measured commissioning information in the handover folder. If you replace the motor or controller later, review the existing cable again because compatibility assumptions may have changed.
Borehole pump cable sizing: compare quantities and conductor sizes
Remember, the pump setting is not necessarily the full cable length. Include the route to the panel and the allowance needed for terminations and installation, as specified by the electrical designer. Our shop lists submersible cable options per metre, with jointing kits separately. However, armoured supply cable and solar DC cable serve different parts of a system. Do not substitute them simply because the sizes look similar. Therefore, ask for cable type, conductor size, length and jointing materials on one itemised quotation.
What to send for a quotation
- Motor model, power and phase
- Full cable route length
- Submerged application specification
- Jointing and test records
Include your county, nearest town and location pin. Send the borehole report or clear equipment-label photos where available. If you do not have a report or measurement, let us know so the assessment can be included.
Tell us whether you need equipment supply only, installation, a solar conversion or a repair. We will help identify the next step and prepare an itemised quotation for the agreed work.
